Many of us are old enough to realize just how SHORT are the 249 years that have passed since we gained our independence from Britain.
I remember celebrating the Bicentennial in 1976. And the 50 years since then are a hiccup.
We MUST reclaim the America that our brilliant, mostly young, founding fathers envisioned. This Independence Day I thank God for the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

I was 15 and remember painting fire hydrants. We had a local parade every year and they had an equestrian section. (At the end of course!) My friend had a wonderful pony and cart, and he let me drive the pony with my sister. We decorated the cart. It was a blast. Everyone was into it. I can’t wait for next year. I hope it’s just as festive.

I was a young Coast Guard Officer for our Bicentennial Op-Sail of Tall Ships in New York Harbor. It was incredible to witness up close. The Governor’s Island CG Base was all decked out and hosting, under the watchful gaze of Lady Liberty. It had a profound impact on me. Glory Days indeed..

I saw Jemi Hendrix at Woodstock 1969. It rained all day, thick mud everywhere. People found plastic and wrapped themselves in it at sat in the mud to see him. He was getting shocked from his electric guitar. That day was a path in the road change for me. Over all my life has been very good and I still love hearing Jemi. Thanks Jemi.

Spent the 4th doing what we have done for at least 10 yearsโฆ participated in the Carp Classic fishing tournament. Daughter and her 14 y.o. fishing partner teamed up to put 47 carp in the can. Total weight? 313.7 lbs. runaway winners for 5th straight year. There is a 12 and under youth division and at age 13 you compete against the adults. Daughter is 17. Has yet to lose against the adults. Iโm tired. Me and the other dad just sat back and watched, but somehow Iโm exhausted.

Well, ironically, they put them all in a front end loader and haul them to an organic farmer for fertilizer.
