For those interested in the Georgia situation, I strongly recommend reading the original version of Federal Judge Amy Totenberg’s final opinion in the case of Curling vs. Raffensperger. In that opinion, quite a few well known expert witness’s testified regarding serious weaknesses in the Dominion electronic voting machines. Their testimony was sealed in the original judge’s version, but eventually released years later. The case focused on GA elections held prior to the 2020 Presidential election using those machines.
My background is very similar to the expert witnesses. One thing I have that they do not have, is decades of hands on experience securing/assessing/certifying tens of thousands of systems that are part of the national critical infrastructure. After reading the judge’s opinion, although I was not a GA resident, I submitted formal requests in writing to the GA Secretary of State, AG, and others politely explaining why these machines should not be used in the 2020 election. I also copied several members of top leadership in my home state and members of Congress. It is my professional opinion Judge Totenberg made the wrong decision, and she knew it at the time based on the wording in her opinion.

In January 2017, then‑DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson formally classified election infrastructure—including voter registration databases, voting machines, election‑management IT systems, and related facilities—as a sub-sector of the Government Facilities critical‑infrastructure sector, placing it alongside sectors such as the power grid and financial system.
There here are currently 16 sectors. Each one has sub-sectors. That’s a whole lot of systems and information to protect.
When it comes to certifying U.S. Critical Infrastructure systems, one thing that is a huge red flag is the use of foreign sourced software. This is prohibited. I’ve been directly involved in more than one situation where this has happened, and a system that was previously ‘certified’ as secure, was immediately, on-the-spot, decertified and taken out of service. This was extremely problematic in one situation due to what the system was used for, but it was removed from service anyway.
Dominion, as a company, used software developed in Serbia. This was actually pretty well known. This was one item I specifically called out in my letter mentioned in my previous posting.
