FRIDAY NOTE FROM KANIAC — I want to reiterate some thoughts on the situation of watching X videos if you don’t have an X account. Firstly, CFP has nothing to do with the site XCancel. We in fact love X and wish it no harm. We actually wish everyone would just sign up quickly for X, then this wouldn’t be an issue. However that is not a realistic expectation, so for now we have no choice but to link to XCancel because approximately 80% of CFP readers don’t have X accounts. We wish Elon would just reverse the new policy and once again allow non-users to watch videos and read all the comments. We think Youtube has always had the best policy of allowing watching and reading by non users. And we think X should so the same, for its own long term health and growth as a video/news platform. That said, CFP must deal with the policy as it exists, and so we link to XCancel so our readers can actually watch the content. Last word, if you are a registered X user, you can go to any tweet directly on X simply by removing the word ‘cancel’ in the URL. That will take you directly to the X post.
