Heard & read this story several times over the years. The moral STILL applies. But, is ignored.
Foreign Aid is stealing money from poor citizens in one country and giving to rich politicians in another country.
Senator Paul is like a voice crying in the wilderness.
Can we clone this man.
The voice of sanity.
WE could only wish this could happen.. A voice of reason.
Send that man a coonskin hat.
Mayer Rothschild once said ‘ Give me control of a nation’s money supply and I care not who makes it’s laws!’ Who is really in control of ours?
his wife is an investor in gilead sciences. the company that makes remdesivir.
gilead also manufactures products for pfizer.
Not the first I’ve heard it. It’s as true now, as then. We trust our “leaders” to use discretion in their wielding of the power we bless them with. They need be held accountable, even by force, if necessary. THAT’S why our founding fathers gave us the second Amendment. Judgement Day may soon be on the horizon, should they continue to ignore We the People and OUR needs.
“Mr. Paul Goes to Washington”…much more principled position than the mythical Mr. Smith.
First time we’ve heard this story? Really? If that’s true then we are in much worse shape in America than I thought. For heaven’s sake, read America, READ!
Good reminder of Constitutional limitations and cutting some of the frivolous budget expenses, protect our own military security. We need to pay our “tab” first and stop sending others money without impacting Congress pockets as well. Stop increasing debt! There is no free money.
Like some others here, I had heard the story decades ago, but without the needed attribution Rand Paul gives it. It is originally from a newspaper article of 1867 about three decades after Crockett served in Congress, so it may not be true, but at least is now better founded than the rumor I have generally seen.
Thank you Senator Paul.
Even the veterans are for it, kinda:
Will Ukraine Become the New Israel?
Call it a conspiracy theory if you like, but I have read in more than one place that the hidden agenda of the US in Ukraine is to create a new homeland for people from Israel who want to migrate there in order to get out of what increasingly is becoming a failed state headed for collapse.
It’s easy to ridicule this theory, but I think there’s something to it.
bullshit. how are you so stupid to believe that
God always protects Israel. Reference the Bible, or many books by Dr. David Jeremiah for further insight. Want to know what happens next? The Bible lays out the entire future that is to come.
But, but, but it’s for Israel:
ZELENSKY AND NATO PLAN TO TRANSFORM POST-WAR UKRAINE INTO ‘A BIG ISRAEL’
Poor little Israel can’t afford to finance a war to steal the Ukraine and give it to little Israel surrounded by all those mean Arabs, so it wants the USA to do it for them. So be a good politician and give Israel what it wants. It’s tax payer money anyway, not yours.
Like father, like son. The Paul family is a national treasure.
I learned this story about 40 years ago. Still a great story.
My father told that Davy Crockett story to us and he learned it as a little boy. Dad was born in 1902. It should be taught in schools.
I taught it to my homeschooled kids. It’s in a little book about stories of the founders and the revolutionary period.
We can always send those reps in favor of sending $$ to Ukraine over there as combatants. See how hard they will work to stop the war after that.
OPiuM. Other Peoples Money.
Read the story of Davy Crockett about the time he ran across Bigfoot.
Rand Paul may be the most principled man in Washington. Great story. Great principle. Obviously correct.
Too bad there’s only one honest man in the Senate!
Yes, I’ve heard this story before. Think of it often, whenever Congresscritters want to give our money away!
Whenever welfare or social security or fema money is allotted to people.
I’ve heard this story a long time ago. It’s right on. Good for you Rand Paul
OPM,(other peoples money) the funnest money to spend. I used to be a Realtor, it was so fun shopping to spend $200,000, $500,000, then I finally spent OPM on a million dollar home!
America aka new China I bet Russia gets Alaska back
…”the problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money”…
I visited Congress once and the Representative nick-named “B1 Bob” was giving a long winded speech to nobody else in the House of Representatives.
that was Bob Dornan. He was a badass pilot and was done in by a bunch of California and DC. fags.
Yes, it was Bob Dornan, a very good man. Linda Sanchez and her La Raza and homosexual mobs lied and lied about him. we need himand more like him.
They kept the camera on Rand Paul—was anyone else there to hear it? If not, where was everyone? They want all this money but they don’t have to be there? Wow. What a job.
You’re correct! If you want to vote on legislation you must be there! None of this “proxy” vote crap
A sound diagnosis, and a proper prescription.
Right on Senator Paul. Wonder if anyone else was in the chamber.
Most were probably somewhere else and couldn’t care less.
That was brutal honesty. I love America, but in the distaste of our government. and he’s not the first person to point this out.
I heard this story of Crockett many years ago and it has been my dream that it would become the mindset of Congress. Unfortunately, we have too many elected officials that no one would trust with their personal checkbook, but somehow they get elected to office. I’m still hopeful that someday it will happen.
He is also to my next door neighbor. True story, he has a musket owned by him, super cool to see. A gunsmith fired out, did just fine!
If everyone coming to this site took 5 minutes to forward this to their Congressman and Senators it would be an act of patriotism. Thanks Senator Paul for sharing.
I can honestly say I voted for Ron 3x when he ran, and wow him in twice when he didn’t.,. Rand is not his dad, but he’s about as good as we have in the Senate.
Rand Paul is amazing. Meanwhile, McConnell, Cornyn, Romney have their heads in the sand.
The difference is those mentioned and so many others have sold their souls for a buck, or are treasonously stupid. Or maybe just treasonous.
“Put it on our tab” is a euphemism for… let future generations pay for it. Which is… taxation without representation.
Taxation = theft.
Lifetime politicians have no clue of the daily struggles of average US citizens. They dwell in a land of no consequences. They are pampered by perks paid for by average US citizens. They’ve lived in a land of “elitism” for so long they can’t identify with what being a normal citizen is. In many cases they exempt themselves from their idiotic legislation. Think of Obamacare.
If you don’t believe me, try running your household budget like congress runs the federal budget. How long do you think it would be before everything you owned was taken from you? Or how long before you were criminally charged with fraud or had your wages garnished to pay your debt?
Any deficit spending should be a very rare event, not a common practice nor foregone conclusion.
Rand Paul for head of the senate
It’s sad that THIS Senator from Kentucky is not the Minority Leader. If we had Paul instead of McConnell, we might even have taken back the Majority in the Senate.
I frequently have problems seeing the videos that are supposedly ahead of these conversations between visitors that I actually do see.
Is the cfp tech sabotaging them, or is it my Android phone? I would really like to have seen this, because I think I know the story already from decades ago.
Probably four people were listening because they had to be there.
Another great quote from Crocket; “You may all go to hell and I will go to Texas.” One of the reasons I live in Texas.
Except he actually went to the Mexican territory BEFORE it was even declared the independent territory of Texas… the battle of the Alamo took place Feb 23-March 6 and Texas declared itself independent on March 2nd when that battle was already hopelessly lost.
And Crockett’s sole purpose in being there was because he was broke and desperate to claim the 4,600 acres he was promised if Texas did successfully separate from Mexico. Those “patriots” were in fact nothing more than squatters who seized land that wasn’t theirs. History is your friend, and even more so when it’s not filtered by myths, legends and jingoism.
How does your pedantic and condescending statement change what Crockett said?
It’s intellectually dishonest to declare speculation as to motives as fact. As well as only present the part of history that supports the favored narrative. It was common among Americans to refer to that part of the continent as ‘Texas’. The sentiment of Americans living in then Mexico’s ‘Texas’ province was that Texans’ both native and immigrant lacked representation and thus had the right to secede from Mexico. Santa Ana, dictator of Mexico whose word was law, had broken his own proclamations and in doing so, forfeited his and thus his government’s claims to Texas. The actions of one government cannot be disavowed by a succeeding one unless one supports the view that the official actions of one government are rescindable by another. In which case, treaties and agreements are not worth the ink upon which they are written.
Point well taken. Does that mean the islands that Japan had to surrender to the Soviet union after the world war still belong to Japan???. Can we look at today and abuse of our government through funding and taxing the American people and wasteful spending that’s killing us without a war.
i have one simple activity for you too.
Bravo, Senator Paul!
This is one of the most essential national conversations in which we need to engage.
The congress and senate do not have money to borrow nor give.
It is not theirs to give.
We The People have been stolen from, fleeced and ripped off by these white collar criminals masquerading as elected officials for our entire lives.
We The People need to do the following:
01. Audit and then End The Fed
02. Abolish the IRS
03. Repeal the 16th Amendment
If these three objectives are not reached, our children and grandchildren will be deprived of their natural lives and right to self-determination.
Please consider this. Thank you.
Agree. But I have read several places that the 16th amendment was not really ratified by all 36 (?) states. True? Time to find out
Audit Fort Knox
WHY???? To prove we are broke. 😳 good one ☝️
Dr. Paul should stand up on the senate floor and challenge the whole lot to justify running our country into 30 trillion in debt. And they still want more. Why would anybody work hard to better his life knowing so much of his earnings will the taken by the dean of thieves. Not only at the fed level but at the state level too.
That’s a wonderful speech and sentiment that illustrates what a savvy politician Crockett actually was; but at the same time only furthers the myth that Crockett was a social justice warrior. But history records that while a member of Congress, Crockett didn’t pass a single piece of legislation. And then later at the Alamo -and despite what we were taught when children- where in fact he didn’t fall fighting like John Wayne. Along with a handful of other survivors, Crockett was captured and hauled before Santa Ana where he pleaded for his life as eloquently as he did that day before Congress for the poor. But Santa Ana recognized Crockett’s ruse and immediately ordered the execution of the men standing before him and their bodies burned. It’s also worth remembering more true history about that famous battle: the men who fought at the Alamo were only in Mexico in the first place to illegally claim fertile land for themselves. Ironically, this was in contrast to one of Crockett’s documented fights in support of Native Americans being driven from their lands, but when it became his time to do the same thing in Mexico he didn’t hesitate to fight for land that wasn’t his to claim. You see: we were really nothing but squatters in Mexico at the time and yet when Mexicans rightfully fought back against that incursion they were inaccurately painted as the aggressors by the American press and thus the Alamo/Crockett myth was created. Always remember: history is your friend and a true, honest and unsanitized one even more so!
Senator Paul’s floor speech had absolutely nothing to do with the Alamo. It’s about human nature vs. adherence to the Constitution. History is an amalgamation of good and bad human behavior and events that either were caused by that behavior or resulted in that behavior. If you weren’t so condescending as to think we all don’t know history, and if you weren’t so eager to highlight the bad behavior of an historical figure, you’d realize that Paul isn’t perpetuating any myths and you might learn something about the events of today, and about human nature vs. the Constitution.
OK, so you’re saying that the good guys are the ones showering us with legislation and spending gobs of money that we don’t have? And Americans should have left the South West to General Santa Ana and that the South West should be part of Mexico? And you are probably also thinking that Santa Ana’s opposition to the Merkans was due to his opposition to slavery? I’ll be the first to admit that the U.S. has many problems and a great need for reform to bring itself in to conforming to the principles of the Declaration of Independence.
Ethnic Hispanics voting with their feet would argue to most IMO that as troubled as America is it is still a better place than Latin America. Probably, the anti Crockett types are socialist wanting more redistribution?
The conquerors get to write the history….it’s always been thus. America is no different nor more or less horrible. It is a reality, those who cannot hold unto their land or culture will fall to a stronger force. Take the once good ole USA for example. We the weak kneed Judeo/Christian warriors who have surrender our culture and country to the alter of selfish desire and corrupt leaders will fade into the ash heap of history doomed to be rewritten by the enemies of our souls, unless, the God of Creation, in His infinite mercy hears the righteous prayers of His people, who will confess their sins, humble themselves before Him so He and only He might save our land.
With all due respect, and great appreciation for your interest in Texas history, it appears you are referencing the De La Pena claim that Crockett was executed after the battle.
The only written account of such a claim stems from the questionable diary of Lt. Jose Enrique De La Pena who was a member of Colonel Duque’s battalion on the morning of March 6, 1836.
Years after returning to Mexico, he authored a 400 page account of his life, including the Alamo battle. It was only tranlated into English 139 years after the battle with the University of Texas aquiring it at auction in 1975.
Interestingly enough, despite numerous Mexican Generals and various other officers writing reports of the battle, not one single reference was ever made to this alleged event by any of them.
In fact, the lack of any other document ever mentioning this account despite all the reports sent back to Mexico, make it suspect on its own, however, there are a few historians who are on record stating they believe it to be a forgery.
Personally, I find the account hard to believe, not because of some Texas tradition that all Texans bravely fought to the death. In fact, a great deal of the dead were killed while trying to flee outside the northeast wall by lances wielded by the Mexican cavalry.
The reason I think it is bogus, is the Mexican Army had no compunction whatsover at that time in using the terror tactic of executing prisoners (e.g., Goliad, Mier, etc.) and would have had ZERO hesitancy to terrify the balance of the Texan army by making it widely known that they had just executed a former U.S. Congressman (and 5 others) as pirates attempting to overthrow the government.
I find it hard to believe Santa Anna himself wouldn’t have widely disseminated the news in his accounting either. After all, he had no problem crowing about executing Fannin and almost all his troops who had surrendered at Goliad.
Nobody knows for certain if the De La Pena diary account of Crockett’s death is mistaken, or a complete forgery. But like so much of Alamo history, until some additional and verifiable account detailing the alleged execution of David Crockett emerges, I would take the De La Pena account with the same grain of salt most of us do regarding the Rose story about his (absolutely miraculous escape and account of Travis’ famous line in the sand.)
As to us being squatters in Texas, do keep in mind, Mexico wanted migrants into Texas to provide a buffer to keep the Comanches from their raids into Mexico. They actually referred to it at the time as the Fronterra. A line not to be crossed.
Until enough foreigners settled here, Mexico wanted zero to do with occupying Texas, thinking it was nothing but desert until late 1820.
So there are always different views of history. Thats what makes it so darn interesting.
Thanks for the info I enjoyed it. 👍
Thanks, I appreciate that. I have studied the various battles of the Texian revolution most of my life and very much enjoy helping folks discern fact from fiction.
If it is so good and your traveling why are you wasting time posting it here. What an idiot.
I have been saying this for years and it has been falling on deaf ears. thank you senator keep attention on this misuse of power. STOP spending MY money in ukraine
he was everyone’s great great gray grandfather, and still is
Oh I remember hearing Paul Harvey read this letter on the radio while on lunch the summer before September 11, 2001.
This is the old “Sockdolager” story. I used to tell it to my history students to explain that the Constitution gave Congress certain powers in writing and no other powers could be exercised; the power to award charitable grants was not among them. Were such a power to be exercised by congress it would quickly corrupt both the public and the government. That is precisely why we are collapsing financially in this country and cannot get millions of able bodied people to work. It is extremely doubtful we will ever escape the inevitable ruin that bread and circus politics always brings.
Sad and true.
